Development of a critical care pharmacist career coaching and professional development program at an academic medical center

Continuing professional development is a lifelong process that multifaceted, holistic, self-directed, and not replacement for continuing education. Through ongoing development, pharmacists can improve their skill set in broad range of clinical, educational, research, administrative activities. Not only does this growth benefit the individual pharmacist, but also institution pharmacy profession. In 2020, American College Clinical Pharmacy, Society Critical Care Medicine, Health-System Pharmacists published an updated position paper on critical care services. A new recommendation update was to create mechanisms develop career development. Herein, we describe our experience with implementation program using peer-to-peer coaching within large academic medical center. Professional one size fits all should be individualized. We initially focused developing research skills based initial surveys. Afterwards varied created resources such as journal referee “how-to” teaching flipped classroom.
